The data is a decade old, but is still relevant.
Nadeem Esmail from The Fraiser Institute found "In 2006, more than one-half (54%) of Canadians reported using at least one alternative therapy."
The top 5 most commonly used complementary and alternative medicines (CAM) were:
1. massage therapy
2. relaxation techniques
4. chiropractic care
5. herbal therapies
So why yoga?
It is quite selfish to be honest. Yoga was my entry into various CAM techniques which eventually brought me to a deeper understanding of spiritual health. If I did not engage in yoga when I did, my life would never be the same.
What else can you tell me?
Like clockwork, every January people in Ontario google "Yoga" and the numbers increasingly peak.
New Years Resolutions tend to speed up the customer experience journey for yoga studios and teachers. The cycle looks like:
- Assesses Personal Needs
- Awareness, Research, and Discovery
- Shopping Around and Understanding Options
- Trusting and Trying
- Payment or Enrollment
- Satisfied Advocate or Unsatisfied But Learned From the Experience
So as winter is settling in and classes are dropping in numbers, this is a time to revamp or re-visit yoga options (whether you are a teacher or a student).
